Harper is an unusual man, could easily be the “quiet neighbour who always kept to himself”. Unusual because of his absolute obsession with destroying the Liberal Party of Canada and satisfying himself, it seems, solely with pure vengeance. Holding onto power and vengeance are the key motivators of his regime, look at his crime bill which often confuses vengeance with justice and public safety. In attempting to understand why the riding of Mount Royal has its own ‘Shadow MP’ on the government dime we need look no further than vengeance.
Harper is petty, the fact that it was Pierre Elliot Trudeau’s riding means a lot to him. Winning this riding away from the Liberals would be an ego feeding buffet of perceived revenge for this small man. He will finally feel as though he has his revenge for the National Energy Program.
The hiring of the shadow MP for four years of campaigning, handing out favours and cash demonstrates Harper’s visceral hatred for Pierre Trudeau. I would not be surprised if he worked hard to find a former Trudeau campaign office, riding office or election night party spot so that the revenge could be complete should his plan work. Harper behaves like a petty crackpot dictator exacting his revenge on opponents. He is the sort of ruler who would make his enemies come before him on bended knee if he could. Every move that the Harper government makes is motivated by maintaining power. There is never any thought given to what would be best for Canada, even Alberta for that matter. Everything is about silencing and destroying opponents, playing sector against sector, wedge issues designed to divide the people.
Minister Moore claims that the shadow MP, ”works as a full-time liaison between his office and Montreal’s cultural communities.” Who would normally work as a liaison between communities and the government? Their elected Member of Parliament.
The Shadow MP of Mount Royal is another case of tax dollars wasted on spite from this extremist government.
